Title:  Preparing the Underprepared

Nature an Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this project is to compile a collection of reading and study skills strategies that students need to be successful in college reading.

Discomfort and Risks: There will be no discomfort or risk to any participant as there will be no names placed on the survey.

Benefits: The benefits will be a collection of reading strategies and skills that will assist teachers in better preparing high school students to be successful readers at the college level.

Confidentiality: Individual privacy will be maintained in all publications or presentations resulting from this project. No real names will be printed in the project and responses will be viewed only by the supervising professor, the project conductor, and a panel of Literacy professionals from WKU. In order to preserve the confidentiality of responses pseudonyms may be used. Documents will be locked in Dr. Pamela Petty’s office.

Refusal/Withdrawal: Refusal to participate in this study will have no effect on any future services you may be entitled to from the University.  Anyone who agrees to participate in this study is free to withdraw from the study at any time with no penalty.


The deadline to participate is midnight Friday, March 20, 2009.
