There is a study guide ($15) ISBN 978-1-602299-77-1. · History 120 -Required Texts: Rene Descartes, Discourse on Method 3rd edition (Hackett) Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto (Pathfinder) John Stuart Mill, On Liberty (Hackett) * All courses taught June 15 – July 17, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs 10:00 -12:00 central time – no classes June 29-July 3. 4) Additionally, students MUST enroll in LTCY 199 – Reading Power. * Taught June 15 – July 17, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs 1:00 – 3:00 – no classes June 29 – July 3. 5) Students will be eligible to continue to get FREE support on WKU’s campus throughout their senior year in high school through College Reading Success (once-weekly group meetings), on-line learning modules, and by scheduling time with a reading specialist. Cost of Courses: Each course is $200.00. In return, students will receive 3 hours college credit for each course they pass (6 hours total). Students who attend will receive free materials and software for participating in the “Preparing 4 the Final 4” program. Parents/students are responsible for purchasing the REQUIRED TEXTBOOKS for the content course (Psychology, Sociology, History, or Political Science). Action to be taken: 1) Students should apply to WKU: http://www.wku.edu/~pamela.petty/applicationpriortohsgraduation.htm 2) Once students have a WKU ID number a list of students indicating which content course (psychology, sociology, political science, or history) each student wants to enroll in should be submitted to Dr. Petty (pamela.petty@wku.edu) – she will see that all students are registered for the content course AND the mandatory reading course. It is not possible to take ONLY the reading course or ONLY the content course. 3) An orientation session will be held in Tate Page Hall on WKU’s main campus in Bowling Green on JUNE 8, 4:30 – 6:00 pm. Parents/students will receive a letter and an email with directions and explanations of what to expect. The orientation session will explain the structure of the paired dual-credit courses and answer questions that parents/students may have. It will also be a time to come to campus and visit the bookstore if you want to purchase the content area textbook on campus (all books and materials for the reading course are provided free of charge). NOTE: This summer they’re running the residence halls like hotels. Students can check in on June 15th or the night before – rates are $100 per week double occupancy or $150 per week private.
