10:00 – 10:15 – Break

10:15 – 11:00 – Tandem:  Dr. Andrew Mienaltowski (Psychology) and Kandy Smith (Literacy)   

·         Evolving PSY 100 Strategies for Keeping Students Engaged and Informed

·         When Best Practice is Practiced

11:00 – 11:30 – Value of observations, reflections, and debriefings
                            Questions, comments, and more talk about the “Salt”
                            - Success as Salt
                            - High Interest as Salt (materials - Holes by Louis Sachar)

11:30 – 1:00 – Lunch on your own

1:00 – 1:50 – Focus Groups/Book Clubs  

·         Today’s focus group discussion will be connected with the “Six Successful University Student Traits” and grouped by literature selection from last week

·         Those new to the PD this week should select a book and join a group. 

·         Prompt:  Use the “Six Traits” handout to decide how the book you are reading informs educators as how best to serve/prepare/educate students.  Within the focus group discuss excerpts lifted or ideas gleaned from the book that are practical and applicable to student success.  What would need to occur in high school for students to come to college with those in place?  What needs to occur on college campuses when students get to us without those in place? 

1:50 – 2:00 – Break

2:00 – 3:30 – Three Concurrent sessions - 20 minutes each (repeated) with Reading Specialists

-     Room 132 - Dr. Pam Petty and Kandy Smith:  Discussion of survey comments and article
