I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to font only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give true account of it in my next excursion. For most men, it appears to me, are in a strange uncertainty about it, whether it is of the devil or of God, and have somewhat hastily concluded that it is the chief end of man here to "glorify God and enjoy him forever."
Henry David Thoreau (Walden)

My grandfather bought this land in 1944.  He built this structure to live in while he built his other house. They lived there three years. The shed has one storage room and one woodworking room. He added a car shed on the north side many years later.

This house was finished in 1947.  It has a living room (finished hardwood floor), dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms downstairs, an enclosed backporch, a bathroom, and two rooms upstairs (basically unfinished - they used this for storage).  The house has a tin roof and aluminum siding.  There is always a breeze in the front yard.  Always.

Front yard, south side of house.  Pumphouse (with storage shelves for canned foods) and outside drinking spiket.  Clear well-water, non-sulphur.

Looking from north side of house. Swing included with purchase of house.  Breeze, free of charge.

Another view from the north.  Windows (from front to back) front bedroom, second bedroom, bathroom, (top) upstairs room with staircase.  Electric wall heaters (1) and gas wall heaters - 2- (tank full), one window air-conditioner.

Front view of shed facing Center Point Road.  (Junk in shed has been removed, as has old washer on south side of building.) Entire yard in shade most of the day.

Gate on north side of shed that goes into barnlot.  (Barnlot part of hillside property.) There is a fence in place that is the boundary line for the house lot.

In case you ever want to stand in the front yard and look to the heavens - this is what you would see. When I was a small child my grandmother would put a quilt under one of those trees and this is the mobile I watched as I drifted to sleep.

16.1 acres of bottom land on the east side of the house (across Center Point Road).  Per new owners, will be maintained as hay field.
The sun rises over that hill.  Guaranteed.

View over hedges that line the road.  Tank to the left of photo is full of gas for winter.  Satellite dish to right of pumphouse is included, along with one receiver.

Walnut tree in back yard.

My grandmother's variegated perennials on north side of house.
