Technologically-based Literacy Instructional Competencies

In this task you are asked to design a SIMPLE, ONE-PAGE website (it will be housed on WKU’s server) that has categories based on essential literacy practices as outlined in our text (headings listed under # 4 below) .  Under each category you will list and link your favorite websites so that they will be readily available to you for literacy instructional planning for your classroom (at least 5).  You must include at least 3 links to WebQuests that are appropriate for your students. I will be providing you with a template so relax – if you can use Word, you can make a webpage.   TEMPLATE for your WEBPAGE:  http://www.pampetty.com/518index.htm

After you open this page, copy and paste it into a new Front Page Express file.  From there you can remove the notes I put in for you and begin to add your resources.

If you already have a homepage then you can name this page anything you want.  if you do NOT have a homepage, you need to name this page   index

        Screen-by-screen - this resource is a MUST!!!
Examples of creative/favorite pages:

  • I made this series of webpages for my nephews Cameron and Connor.  The images of the boys are "self-portraits" the boys drew and I scanned.  Many of the other images are taken from non-copyrighted sites I found on-line:  http://www.pampetty.com/connor.htm -- here is the new Flat Stanley page I made for my niece:  http://www.pampetty.com/fs1.htm
  • My "pigs" website came from some work I did in my doctoral program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  The "pigs in our language" webpage has several "piggy-back" (forgive the pun) songs that I wrote along with two original stories:  http://www.pampetty.com/pigs.htm
  • Here is one I did for how to make a book according to IRA's bookmaking directions:  http://www.pampetty.com/bookmaking.htm

Alphabet Practice Online

lphabet Fun!
This site provides a game that matches letters of the alphabet with corresponding pictures.  It has levels of difficulty.  A bit slow to load, but worth the wait.

Surfing the ABC's Published Project
Classes of kindergarteners and first graders publish their "ABC Project" on this site.  Students used search engines to search the Internet and find sites for each letter of the alphabet.  Great idea.  Lots of links.  Adults will have to read quite a bit of the text, but it is worth the trouble.
