I will be your instructor in this course, so let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Dr. Pam Petty and I live in Carthage, Tennessee with my husband of twenty-nine years. I have a seventy-five mile commute each way to the great city of Bowling Green. My husband and I have two children; a son who is twenty-five and a twenty-three year old daughter. My background includes literacy education, elementary education, information sciences, child and family studies, and holistic teaching and learning. I have seven years of experience as a public school teacher and received my doctorate from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. This is my fourth year as an Assistant Professor at Western Kentucky University and I am very impressed with the University, the students, and my colleagues here. I have been designing websites for a little over four years and have about 2,200 web pages on-line at present; many of them can be accessed through my personal homepage: http://www.pampetty.com . This is only one of many on-line courses I have taught - I have taken on-line courses and helped design others. I value the role of technology in education and in our society. I look forward to this course because it combines two passions of mine, literacy and technology. My goal is that all students in this course be successful and that you find taking this course to be a rewarding experience. I hope to learn more about you soon. Blackboard offers us several special benefits ... one of those being the ability to meet each other via Student Homepages found under the Communication button. To design your homepage, click Student Tools, then click on Edit Student Homepage. If you have a photo that you would like to include - I do like a face with a name - you can upload a digital file. If you don't have a digital picture of yourself, you can scan a photo and create one. SPEAKING of email ... you will be receiving a lot from me, especially at the beginning of the course. You need to make arrangements to check your email every day.
