            NOTES TO THE WISE ONES:

1.  READ the syllabus carefully when preparing assignments.  I will use EXACTLY what is in the syllabus to devise rubrics for scoring each assignment.
2.  HANDWRITING EXAM - Check CourseInfo under Course Documents to find the websites I asked you to visit - they show the handwriting styles.  Be prepared to print one sentence in Zaner-Bloser style and one in D'Nealian style.  Be prepared to write on sentence in cursive in Zaner-Bloser style and one in D'Nealian style.  We will do this exam in CLASS together.  You will not be allowed to use a sheet that shows the letters during the exam.  You need to bring a couple of sheets of paper for the exam.  Go to this website and see if you bought paper that looks like this:
http://www.pampetty.com/handwritinglineguide.htm.  You MUST pass competency on this exam.  The exam will be repeated until mastery is achieved - by appointment with me - in my office.
3.  PHONICS EXAM - Look in the BACK of your textbook and STUDY pages 566-582 in preparation for this exam.  It will consist of terminology questions (could be matching, multiple choice, or fill in the blank) and APPLICATION questions.  I will ask you to look at words and identify certain phonics applications.  You will see examples of this here: http://www.pampetty.com/reading.htm - go all the way to the bottom of the page and look for Study Guide for Test 3.  You will not do well on this test if you do not begin studying NOW.  You do not want to miss class on this date.  Phonics generalizations and practice questions are located at:  http://www.pampetty.com/phonics.htm.
4.  The form you need for the BASAL READING SERIES EVALUATION is in CourseInfo under Course Documents.  You only have to evaluate ONE series.  Turn in hardcopy in class on November 21.
5.  FIELD EXPERIENCE MATERIALS include:  1) tally sheet used in Interest Inventory; 2) bibliography of 10 (ten) books based on tally sheet (If you want to include your bibliography in the on-line site I am making, put the biblio in the Dropbox and I will copy it from there.) - be sure and put the "topic" of the book in parenthesis after the bibliographic information; 3) a one-page write up that includes the bibliographic information of the book you read aloud, WHAT you did to include students as you read, and a reflective paragraph of HOW it went (what you would change next time, etc); 4) log-in sheet that your cooperating teacher signed each visit; 5) teacher evaluation sheet.  DO NOT turn these materials in late - you WILL lose points.
6.  BOOKMAKING assignment is worth 50 (FIFTY) points.  Be very attentive to detail.  Follow directions carefully.  Do NOT turn this book in late - you WILL lose points.  I will award 5 bonus points for turning the book in EARLY.  It will work like this:  If you turn the book in prior to NOVEMBER 30, I will give you 5 points toward your grade - NOT TO EXCEED 50 points total.  In other words, if you lose points on the assignment, I will add the 5 points on at the end.  If you score a perfect 50 - the 5 points don't do you any good.  http://www.pampetty.com/bookmaking.htm
7.  I will still be entering lecture questions in CouseInfo prior the FIRST lecture on each NEW chapter.  IF you have all the questions answered BEFORE class, then I will award 2 points toward your final exam grade.  You will get these points even if you make a perfect score on the final (i.e., you can exceed 100 points with the bonus points).  BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I have seen students writing answers during class - and, EVEN copying from their neighbor and then coming up after class and expecting me to give them credit. Don'tdothat.
8.  The daily reading logs will be DUE November 21.  They should be neat and well organized.  You have been working on these all semester and the work should already be done on them so I WILL NOT ACCEPT THESE LATE.  Bring them to class with you on the due date.  They should be stapled and organized from August - November, in that order.
9.  I will base the 5 points for the TECHNOLOGY session on your ability to use CourseInfo, your use of  the dropbox, and communicating by email.  We will not have an entire class session devoted to technology because that has been a "work in process" this entire semester.

Please email me and let me know that you have read this information and have printed a copy for future use.
